Terms of Service

The terms that govern your use of the MAJN platform and services.

Last updated: 6 July 2026

Welcome to the Middle East & Africa Journal of Neurology (“MAJN”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the MAJN website at themajn.com and all related services, including author submissions, peer review, subscriptions, and reader access (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By registering for an account, submitting a manuscript, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of an institution or organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on its behalf.

2. About the Service

MAJN is an open-access academic journal focused on advancing neurological research and scientific discovery in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, with special emphasis on the Middle East and Africa regions. The Service allows authors to submit manuscripts, editors and peer reviewers to manage the editorial workflow, and readers to access published research.

3. Accounts & eligibility

  • You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account, and keep it up to date.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You must notify us immediately at [email protected] of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • Accounts are personal to you. You may not share, sell, or transfer your account to another person.
  • We may verify your email address (for example, by a one-time code) before granting full access.

4. Author submissions & content

When you submit a manuscript or other content to MAJN, you represent and warrant that:

  • The work is original, is your own (or you have the right to submit it), and does not infringe any third party’s rights;
  • The work has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal, except as permitted by our editorial policies;
  • All named authors have contributed to and approved the submission, and all applicable ethical, consent, and disclosure requirements have been met;
  • The work is free of plagiarism, data fabrication, and falsification; any use of artificial-intelligence tools in preparing the work has been disclosed; and all conflicts of interest and sources of funding have been declared.

Submission does not guarantee publication. All manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and peer review, and we may accept, request revisions to, or reject any submission at our discretion. Detailed requirements are set out in our Author Guidelines, which form part of these Terms for authors.

5. Publishing, open access & licensing

MAJN is an open-access journal. Accepted articles are made freely available to readers worldwide. Unless stated otherwise for a specific article, authors retain copyright in their work and grant MAJN a license to publish, host, and distribute it, and readers a license to read, download, and share it with appropriate attribution under the applicable open-access license. Where necessary to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record, we may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions in line with recognized publication-ethics standards. Please review our Open Access policy for details.

6. Fees, payments & refunds

MAJN is free for readers, and authors are not charged to create an account, submit a manuscript, or undergo peer review. There is no up-front payment to use the Service.

  • When a charge applies. An Article Processing Charge (APC) — or a credit from an active subscription — applies only at the final step: after a manuscript has been accepted, when the author chooses to publish and share it. You therefore pay only once the editorial process is complete and you decide, of your own accord, to make your accepted article publicly available. Current APC amounts are shown on our Open Access and Membership pages.
  • Annual subscription. An annual subscription is US$50 and remains active for twelve (12) months from the date of purchase. During that period it covers the publication of up to two (2) manuscripts, in place of paying the per-article APC.
  • How payments are handled. All payments are processed securely by a third-party payment provider. We receive confirmation of your transaction but do not store your full card details on our servers.
  • No refunds. Because no payment is taken until the editorial process is complete and you have chosen to publish your accepted manuscript or to purchase a subscription, all fees are final and non-refundable — including APCs paid at publication and annual subscription fees — except where a refund is required by applicable law.
  • Fee waivers. Consistent with our mission to advance research from Low- and Middle-Income Countries, waivers or discounts may be available on a case-by-case basis. Contact us at [email protected] before you publish to request consideration.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose;
  • Upload malicious code, attempt to gain unauthorized access, disrupt, or overload the Service or its infrastructure;
  • Misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or authorship;
  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically extract content or personal data from the Service without permission;
  • Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others.

8. Intellectual property of the site

The MAJN name, logo, website design, and software are owned by or licensed to MAJN and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for content you submit and published articles governed by their open-access license, you may not copy, modify, or create derivative works from the Service without our prior written consent.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers (for example, for payments, email delivery, content delivery, and analytics) and may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third parties. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that party’s own terms.

10. Disclaimers

The Service and all content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Published research reflects the views of its authors and does not constitute medical, clinical, or professional advice.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MAJN and its editors, staff, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

12. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, or deactivate your account, if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the integrity of the journal. You may stop using the Service at any time and request that your account be deactivated by contacting us.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. The courts located in Jordan will have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms, unless a mandatory law provides otherwise.
