1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly and information generated automatically when you use the Service:

Information you provide

  • Account details: your name, email address, institution, country, phone number, and password (stored only in encrypted/hashed form).
  • Submissions: manuscripts, co-author details, abstracts, files, and related correspondence you submit for review or publication.
  • Payments: when you pay a fee, billing details are collected and processed by our third-party payment provider. We receive confirmation of the transaction but do not store your full card number on our servers.
  • Communications: messages you send us, for example by email to [email protected].

Information collected automatically

  • Technical & usage data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and general usage statistics.
  • Local storage: small values stored in your browser to keep you signed in and to remember your theme and language preferences (see Section 3).

2. How we use your information

  • To create and manage your account and verify your identity (for example, via a one-time email code);
  • To operate the editorial workflow — submission, peer review, editorial decisions, and publication;
  • To process payments and manage memberships and subscriptions;
  • To send service-related emails (account, verification, editorial status, and receipts) from [email protected];
  • To maintain the security, integrity, and performance of the Service;
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Cookies & local storage

We use browser local storage and similar technologies for essential functions, including keeping your session active after you log in and remembering your chosen theme (light/dark) and language. We may also use limited analytics to understand how the Service is used and to improve it. Essential storage is required for the Service to work; you can clear it through your browser settings, but doing so may log you out or reset your preferences.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the Service:

  • Service providers: our payment processor, email delivery provider, content-delivery network, and analytics provider, who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards;
  • Editorial participants: information necessary for peer review is shared with the relevant editors and reviewers (peer review may be conducted confidentially);
  • Legal reasons: where required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of MAJN, our users, or the public.

5. Data retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, meet our legal and editorial obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Published articles and associated author information form part of the permanent scholarly record. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

6. How we protect your data

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. International transfers

MAJN serves authors and readers across the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including where our service providers operate. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an appropriate level of protection.

8. Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, update, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to request a copy of your data. You can update most account details from your dashboard. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for researchers, professionals, and adult readers. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. Third-party links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites. This Policy does not apply to those sites, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of any third-party site you visit.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.

12. Contact us
